We used the Shade Shack while vacationing in Daytona Beach. It was so easy to carry, set up, and take down (just a few seconds). We were at the beach for several days and found that it worked great. Our two children enjoyed it as well, playing and picnicking inside. It was nice not to worry about over exposure to the sun. The side windows and open back design allowed us to enjoy the ocean breezes. The sand pockets worked well to anchor the tent in breezy conditions. This did really well for us - both as a shelter, and as a kite! (j/k - lol) It was very simple to go up; putting away was a little trickier, particularly when the wind was blowing. I was a little concerned about the ruggedness of the shelter, but it held up well. Overall, it suited our purposes and we'll probably get some more uses out of it.

Wind Ridge Instant Tent Customer Review

The most amazing feature about the "Wind Ridge Instant Tent" is how easy it is to assemble. It is almost just like an umbrella, where you pop a button and up it goes. Well, maybe not that easy but close enough to make the comparison. You can literally get this tent up and running in second. I have never seen anything like this before!

Getting it back down and into the bag is a little more difficult, and it took me a few tries to figure out the folding order necessary. But once you get the knack of it there is really no problem. Same with the rain cover, for which there are no instructions but can be figured out quite easily.

The tent is spacious, and great for two or three people, maybe even four if you are friendly enough. My wife and I did just great with room left over for all of our gear. I loved all the built in pockets and found everything extremely convenient.

In fact, we loved this tent so much we started finding the time for extra camping trips this summer just because it was so much fun to use our new tent!

We used this at the beach and when we put sand in the pockets, it withstood some serious wind! Just make sure to position the shelter with the paneled side going into the wind and it will be very stable. The winds were from Tropical Storm Fay and umbrellas were tumbling down the sand while I was nice and comfy under my shade in my beach chair.

Just purchased the self-expandable screen tent (which works GREAT!) but wanted something more like a regular tent - because the screen tent only has mesh covering on the top portion of every side. So, purchased the self-expanded screen tent waterproof cover, also from Genji Sports, via Amazon.

This cover works great - goes right over the top of the tent and attaches with really fast and easy input plastic stakes at the bottom on all sides. The cover has a little mesh window that you can pull up the material on if you want to see some outside - but if you don't just drop down the material that velcro attaches and you have complete coverage! Also has zippers that you can open obviously from the inside as well as the outside just as a tent would.

Nicely lightweight and easy to set up and breakdown, the sporty Wenzel Pinon dome-style tent is a great choice for a weekend car camping outing. It features a generously sized single room that measures 7 by 7 feet--great for storing lots of gear--and a 50-inch maximum height. In addition to the good-sized D-style door (with a mesh window covering half of it), this tent also includes a window on the back for cross-current ventilation. The interior is quite spare, with only a small gear pocket in one corner near the door.

Setting up the tent was easy, for the most part, and we erected the tent (with its two shock-corded fiberglass poles) in under five minutes. The one impediment to an even faster assembly was the heavy-duty nylon corner pockets that secure the poles, which included a polyester-reinforced interior flap that's not seamed at the top of the entry. Thus, we had a tougher time than we should have trying to make correct purchase with the pocket, continually hitting the space between the nylon pocket and the interior poly pocket.

But we could forgive this slight design flaw for such a nicely light and easily backpacked tent. This tent also includes a fly that offers a good coverage area, including a bit of an extended cover over the door and back window. While we didn't have rain during our testing, we did use a sprinkler for an extended period, and were pleased to note that the fly ably handled the water run off, guiding it away from the bottom of the tent. To improve this tent's weather resistance, it's recommended that you use seam sealer to coat all exposed seams, applying only to the underside of the fly and inside the seams of the tent.

Overall, the Wenzel Pinon is a good choice for car campers and for the occasional hiked excursion. While it won't stand up to the worst that Mother Nature can throw your way, it should handle a decent amount of rain. Selecting a Tent
Fortunately, there are all kinds of tents for weekend car campers, Everest expeditions, and everything in-between. Here are a few things to keep in mind:

Expect the Worst
In general, it's wise to choose a tent that's designed to withstand the worst possible conditions you think you'll face. For instance, if you're a summer car camper in a region where weather is predictable, an inexpensive family or all purpose tent will likely do the trick--especially if a vehicle is nearby and you can make a mad dash for safety when bad weather swoops in! If you're a backpacker, alpine climber or bike explorer, or if you like to car camp in all seasons, you'll want to take something designed to handle more adversity.

Three- and Four-Season Tents
For summer, early fall and late spring outings, choose a three-season tent. At minimum, a quality three season tent will have lightweight aluminum poles, a reinforced floor, durable stitching, and a quality rain-fly. Some three-season tents offer more open-air netting and are more specifically designed for summer backpacking and other activities. Many premium tents will feature pre-sealed, taped seams and a silicone-impregnated rain-fly for enhanced waterproofness.

For winter camping or alpine travel, go with a four season model. Because they typically feature more durable fabric coatings, as well as more poles, four-season tents are designed to handle heavy snowfall and high winds without collapsing. Of course, four-season tents exact a weight penalty of about 10 to 20 percent in trade for their strength and durability. They also tend to be more expensive.

Domes and Tunnels
Tents are broadly categorized into two types, freestanding, which can stand up on their own, and those that must be staked down in order to stand upright. Freestanding tents often incorporate a dome-shaped design, and most four-season tents are constructed this way because a dome leaves no flat spots on the outer surface where snow can collect. Domes are also inherently stronger than any other design. Meanwhile, many three-season models employ a modified dome configuration called a tunnel. These are still freestanding, but they require fewer poles than a dome, use less fabric, and typically have a rectangular floor-plan that offers less storage space than a dome configuration. Many one and two-person tents are not freestanding, but they make up for it by being more lightweight. Because they use fewer poles, they can also be quicker to set up than a dome.

Size Matters
Ask yourself how many people you'd like to fit in your fabric hotel now and in the future. For soloists and minimalists, check out one-person tents. If you're a mega-minimalist, or if you have your eye on doing some big wall climbs, a waterproof-breathable bivy sack is the ticket. Some bivy sacks feature poles and stake points to give you a little more breathing room. Also, if you don't need bug protection and you want to save weight, check out open-air shelters.

Families who plan on car camping in good weather can choose from a wide range of jumbo-sized tents that will accommodate all your little ones with room to spare. A wide range of capacities is also available for three- and four-season backpacking and expedition tents. Remember, though, the bigger the tent you buy, the heavier it will be, although it's easy to break up the tent components among several people in your group. It's also helpful to compare the volume and floor-space measurements of models you're considering.

I bought this for my mom to take to the beach (she lives in Florida and can't stay in the sun for long)and she was delighted with it. It's compact and very portable as well as incredibly easy to open and set up. It has 4 plastic stakes that you insert through 4 loops at the bottom of the tent and stick in the sand so it doesn't fly off. My mom sat in it for a number of hours and had a nice cross breeze with all the "windows" open. It wasn't so small that she felt closed in - in fact she had a full-size reclining lounge chair in it along with her beach bag. She did stick her legs out of the front opening to be in the sun and overall was very comfortable. It was a bit tricky folding it back up when we were done, but it's one of those things that you get the hang of with practice. I would strongly recommend this for anyone with kids or people like me who can never drive an umbrella far enough into the sand so that it doesn't fly away.

I am very fair-skinned and bought this to take on a beach vacation a few weeks ago. It is awesome! I didn't want to get a tent that I had to set up at all and since this literally pops up by itself it was great. It's really easy and compact and comes with a carrying case with straps. And it doesn't blow away on the beach no matter how windy it is! It's got side pockets which you can fill with sand which holds it down. The only thing I would caution people about is opening the tent - you have to kind of throw it away from you because it pops up really quick and forcefully. Tents are broadly categorized into two types, freestanding, which can stand up on their own, and those that must be staked down in order to stand upright. Freestanding tents often incorporate a dome-shaped design, and most four-season tents are constructed this way because a dome leaves no flat spots on the outer surface where snow can collect. Domes are also inherently stronger than any other design. Meanwhile, many three-season models employ a modified dome configuration called a tunnel. This was a birthday gift for my 9 year old grandson. Well, the first one came with a hole in it but Amazon was great and sent me a free shipping label to send it back and shipped out a new one immediately. It came very quickly and in time for my grandson's birthday. He absolutely loves it. It was easy to set up, they put a blow up mattress in it and it fit perfectly. He had friends over to sleep out in the backyard three nights in a row. They played games (by flashlight)told stories and had a blast.My daughter said it's great for two adults but three would be a little tight, especially with the mattress but next year my son-in-law will take my grandson to the state park and it will be perfect for the two of them. It has been great fun and cost less than some electronic toy. Also better than those "kid" tents that are OK in the house but blow away outside.

I have to say that I'm quite impressed by this little tent. It took literally less than five minutes to get this tent up and running, including getting the rain fly over it and staking it into the ground. The tent was large enough to accommodate two adults with a twin size air mattress, while still leaving some room to throw our bags at our feet.

The reason why this product deserves a five star rating is because it impressively withstood a five hour non stop rainstorm, with wind, and it didn't blow away or leak all over our heads. (okay. I had a couple of piddles mysteriously drop onto my head, but I never did figure out where exactly they were coming from.) The tent tolerated us getting in and out during the rain and it didn't get all messy. Nice. In the morning, this great little tent was a cinch to wipe down and even easier to fold down and pack away. The tent directions comes with a web address that links to a video that shows you how to fold this great little invention away. Practice a couple of times and it's like riding a bike. You get hooked!

This beach tent was super! It was exactly what we needed for our 13 month old to play in and sleep in while we were on the beach. It was incredibly easy to set up and take down (as long as you follow the picture diagram that came along with it),and it was able to withstand pretty strong winds. It was great to have the various options of opening up the front flaps or the back flaps, as well as the side vented windows. The only negative thing about it was that the strap broke on the carrying bag which made it difficult to hang on your shoulder.

I grew up with this type of "pop-up" tent and now that I have my own family I realized that I needed another one. This tent design has been around for 14 years now. In that time period I haven't found a more simple, easy to use, or more portable tent for lounging away from the sun between beach activities. I like being able to just throw the thing into the air, watch it expand mid-flight, and then have a setup tent in front of me (hopefully in the future everything we need will be built this way!). Fold down is very easy once you see/do it once and when folded you get a very compact circle that can fit pretty flat on the floor of a car trunk (or on top of all your stuff in that car trunk). Makes trips to the beach a lot more fun + no hassle to take it = great buy.
